About the event

Radical Rest

Experiencing global economic, political, and climate collapse is exhausting. Colonialism and Capitalism purposely create these conditions, forcing us to focus on survival so that we don’t have the time or energy to dismantle these systems of oppression.

Over six weekly sessions, we will come together to introduce, understand, and practice radical rest. Through intuitive invitations, we will explore how creativity can be a form of self-care and ‘active’ rest when it is removed from the context of production and outcome. Alongside this, we will delve into the ancient practice of yoga nidra - also known as yogic sleep - as a meditative approach to supporting our overall well-being and bodily nourishment. There will be ample time for personal reflection on what rest means to us, how easy or difficult we find it to allow ourselves to rest, and how important rest is as the antidote to Capitalism, in that it enables us to show up for the causes we care about most and avoid burnout. Our final session will be specially designed to welcome the winter solstice and wrap up our time together through meditation and creative care. This course is for anybody and everybody. This is not a movement class and requires no specific skills, experience, or physical ability.

This course is facilitated by Ashleigh Gray and Meg Max. Scroll down for facilitator bios.

Meg Max is a queer, neurodivergent, mentally ill writer, artist and mother. She’s way more fun than that first sentence makes her sound. Her fiction has been published online and in print throughout North America, and was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She has a certificate in therapeutic arts from the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy, and alongside founding Writers in Bloom, has facilitated with various schools, organizations and artists through Canada, the UK and the US. For a good time, Meg takes long walks where she gathers treasures to make art out of found or recycled materials. Meg lives on the unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe people, with her husband, kiddo, two dogs and three vacuums.
